CrossfireX dirilis bulan Februari 2022 secara eksklusif untuk Xbox One dan Xbox Series tanpa merilisnya di PC sama sekali.

Remedy Entertainment dipercaya untuk menggarap mode single playernya dengan cerita yang oke, sementara Smilegate yang kembangkan mode multiplayer yang sayangnya tidak dapatkan respon yang baik dari para fans karena terlalu generik.

Smilegate menjelaskan bahwa mereka menutup CrossfireX karena game-nya sangat tidak pada tempatnya tanpa penjelasan pasti. Ya, meskipun mode single player dari game-nya digarap dengan baik.
